To Junior Dolphin members,

Congratulations to all Dolphins and especially parents in your commitment, attitude and behaviour throughout the season. The junior league has unfortunately had a number of incidents recently that have involved other junior clubs. The incidents are both on and off the field and therefore are extremely grateful that no involvement has taken place by any Dolphin player/supporter. The Dolphins committee has a Zero Tolerance to this sort of behaviour and abide fully by the League’s Code of Conduct.

The committee and I are extremely proud to be apart of this great club and it is you the parents and supporters that make this great club continue and succeed. The Dolphins committee attend weekly meetings with the South’s juniors and it pleasing to note that the South’s board/committee have a great appreciation of our club’s history and general attitude to the sport we love.

We are approaching the end of the season, to all teams a huge thank you for wearing the colours proudly, it is something special to see players, some as young as four wearing the Dolphins jerseys/club gear playing in and around the Coogee Basin.

Lastly, please be mindful that the committee try to restrict the amount of junior fundraising activities and therefore hope you support in numbers any events we have throughout the year. All fundraising pushes back to the junior players in merchandise, trips, pizza nights, etc…. The Dolphins can only grow with your Support….

To the teams entering the finals, go strong, fair and good luck…. “Go Dolphins”.

See you around the grounds….

2009 President's Address:
This year was our 16th year in the South Sydney competition fielding 13 teams in Rugby League and 5 teams in the Randwick District Netball Competition. This to date is the most we have had in both codes and is a credit to the efforts of the committee, members and players and I’m personally extremely proud to wear the colours and associated with this great sporting club.

To start with our tremendous Juniors in which we had 10 teams compete from the mighty under 6’s to under 12’s,  which incorporated our youngest player at 4½ years to our senior player playing A grade (2nd Division) at 43 years old such a fantastic achievement. A huge thank you to all of our Junior Coaching Staff, Coaches, Managers, Support Crew and of course the Mum’s, Dad’s, brothers, sisters, and grandparents (“the Supporters”) who face up during the week for training and on those cold winter’s mornings on Sundays. Congratulations and well done to two of our teams for winning the Premiership, Mark Jeffery’s mighty under 7 division 2 (G) and the all conquering under 7’s division 4 (B) coached by Mark Holmes….. Tremendous effort.

To Dean Lavery our Junior Rep, for his passion and devotion to all of the junior teams and who also coaches the under 12’s, his emails, SMS’s,  constant phones calls and follows ups and driving information out to all Managers, Coaches and Players....a huge thank you. To all of the junior players from the 6’s to the 12’s and fantastic effort for your support and skills shown both on the field and the manner in which you display the Coogee Dolphin Spirit and wear the colours and emblem with pride. To our five netball teams which competed in the Randwick Netball Competition and a big thank you to Peta Gillis our Netball Rep, who guided the five teams throughout the season with great results and we will certainly see great advancements and achievements in netball in the years to come.  Congratulations to all players from our Senior A Graders in which the Dolphins were one of two clubs within the district that fielded three A grade teams. Special thanks to coaches A Grade - Jason McKell, A Res Grade - Darren Bradstock and 2nd Div - Dean Johnson and the all the coaching staff, from the strappers, physio, gear stewards and assistants.

Throughout the year we supported a number of events that include: Men’s Cancer ‘Call to Arms Fund’, Children’s Hospital Randwick, Westmead’s Children Hospital, The Martin Family, Barry O’Neil and many more charitable events throughout the year.

Sponsorship was extremely difficult and a large effort from our committee and special mention to our Treasurer Paul Vanni and his assistant James Gilray for follow ups and securing our wonderful sponsors. To our team sponsors, as indicated in the Secretary’s report for your support both at the games and throughout the season, this is what keeps this club together, the ability of the club to organise Family Fun Days, Kids for Kangaroos and the Junior Pizza Nights and supply club merchandise for the kids to wear proudly.

To our major sponsor “The Palace” for the assistant throughout the year with major events including Sportsman Lunch, Pizza Nights, After Match Senior Presentations and fantastic venue and clubhouse overlooking Dolphin Point.

For our members we provided the Palace/Dolphins members badges that were individually mailed to you to provide discounts at our club house “the Palace”, this included the annual “Coogee Fan Day” and one of our major events the “Sportsman’s Lunch” that again exceeds all expectations and provides assistant to the Children’s Hospital Randwick.

To the Dolphins members, I thank you for all your work throughout the year, from helping out at the grounds, training, collecting and transporting players between grounds and your enthusiasm is very much appreciated.  Lastly, to the committee of 2009, I cannot express my gratitude to this committee, there attention to detail, charitable work, going beyond to achieve perfection is what makes this “community based club” where it is today. Below are some of the events that were organised by this committee and the proud achievements throughout the year:

•  Kids for Kangaroo’s , Annual “Mav” Wagga Trip, “Old Boys” Reunion, Martin & O’Neil Charity Golf Day, Adam Howard Shield, Foley Cup, Sportsman Lunch, Senior and Junior Trip Away, Family Fun Day, Luna Park for the Junior/Juniors, Members/Fan Day, Pizza Nights and Bali Memorial Day, etc…

On behalf of the committee I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all our members, supporters, sponsors and see you around the grounds..

:.DOLPHINS VICTORY

On Sunday the 14th of September, the Coogee Dolphins produced one of their gutsiest performances to date in South's Juniors' 100 year old competition.

After dominating the first twenty minutes, the Dolphins scored two hard-earned tries to lead the 2008 Minor Premiers Moore Park  8 - 0. However with ten minutes to go until half-time Moore Park scored under the posts to reduce the margin to 8 - 6.

Moore Park scored two tries in the first 10 minutes of the second half to lead 8 - 16. With 20 minutes remaining in the game, the Dolphins had a scrum ten metres from their own tryline. A sense of déjà vu was upon us - only two weeks earlier Moore Park had been in a similar position, only to put another 20 points on us. But today was different. Today, supporters were treated to the biggest comeback I can remember.

From that scrum, we rucked it out to the half-way and kicked into the in-goal. Our team, thinking they had spotted a Great White, bolted down the field and tackled them in-goal for a restart. This turned the game. We soon crossed the tryline to close the lead to 14-16, with a little over eight minutes to go. With our forwards smashing the hapless Moore Park forwards like Flipper on steroids, we crossed again to snatch the lead 18- 16. With only a minute to go, we scored again to win 20-16.

Life is all about experiences. Being a part of a club that has been able to defend its Premiership title, beating the Minor Premiers both years to win that premiership, makes you appreciate what champions we have associated with our club. This has been one of the most positive experiences in my life. To everyone involved in our great club, I hope you are filled with pride and joy.

Dolphins Forever!

In loving memory of our Number 1 supporter, Johnno Ward RIP 2008.

:. A LITTLE FUNDRAISER GOES A LONG WAY

On the first week of February, the Dolphins boys and girls pulled together to give a mate a helping hand. After A grader Arthur Little's sister, Natalie, was severely bashed and left in a permanent vegetative state, the family needed a specialised van to transport her around.

With the help of major sponsor, the Beach Palace, and a junior sponsor, The Beast, the Dolphins were able to put on a massive fundraising night with a monster raffle and a sports memorabilia auction. Numerous sporting personalities including the likes of Wendell Sailor, Reni Matua, and Sonny Bill Wiliams came down to support their mate.
